Casualties

The UN has said that more than 8,000 civilians have been killed in Ukraine since the start of the war.

The actual number is likely to be much higher, as many deaths have not been recorded.

Military aid

The US has announced a new $2bn (£1.6bn) military aid package for Ukraine, which includes long-range rockets and air defence systems.

The package also includes artillery ammunition, armoured vehicles, and air surveillance radars.

The US has now committed more than $32bn in military aid to Ukraine since the start of the war.

Other countries have also provided military aid to Ukraine, including the UK, Canada, and Poland.

Peace talks

There have been no peace talks between Russia and Ukraine for several months.

Both sides have accused each other of not being serious about negotiations.

The Ukrainian government has said that it will not negotiate with Russia until it withdraws all of its troops from Ukraine.

Russia has said that it is willing to negotiate, but that Ukraine must accept its demands, which include recognising the independence of the Donbas regions and Crimea.

The next round of peace talks is expected to take place in Turkey, but no date has been set.

Analysis

By Tasha Kady, BBC News

The war in Ukraine is now in its 376th day, and there is no end in sight.

Russian forces are continuing to make slow but steady progress in the eastern Donbas region, and they are now attempting to encircle the Ukrainian-held city of Bakhmut.

The US and other Western countries are providing Ukraine with military aid, but it is not clear if this will be enough to stop Russia from achieving its goals.

The war is having a devastating impact on Ukraine, both in terms of human life and economic damage.

More than 8,000 civilians have been killed, and millions have been displaced from their homes.

The war is also having a major impact on the global economy, as it has led to rising energy and food prices.

It is clear that the war in Ukraine will continue for some time to come, and it is difficult to see how it will end without further bloodshed and suffering..
